Xiangshan Tomb

The Xiangshan Tomb is a cultural heritage site protected by the Shandong Provincial Government.

The Xiangshan Tomb is located in Tanfang Town, Qingzhou City. Dating back to the Han Dynasty, it was designated as part of the fourth batch of Provincial-Level Cultural Heritage Protection Units by the Shandong Provincial People's Government in 2013.

From June to August 2006, a joint archaeological team comprising the Shandong Provincial Institute of Archaeology, Weifang Museum, and Qingzhou Museum carried out rescue excavations at the Xiangshan Han Tomb burial pits situated at the northern foot of Xiangshan Mountain in Tanfang Town, Qingzhou City, along with archaeological surveys around the tomb area. This excavation unearthed over 2,000 terracotta figurines and pottery artifacts, as well as more than 2,000 bronze and iron weapons. The remarkably well-preserved painted designs on the pottery and figurines garnered significant attention from various sectors, earning the site recognition as one of China’s major archaeological discoveries of 2006. The Xiangshan Han Tomb burial pits measure approximately 7 meters in length (north-south), 5 meters in width (east-west), and 4 meters in depth, divided into three levels. The contents of the burial pits are diverse, broadly categorized into human figurines, sacrificial animal figurines, poultry figurines, as well as various ritual vessels and daily-use items. Among them, there are nearly 800 human figurines, which can be further divided into standing and mounted figures.

Tanfang Town: "Tanfang Town is located in the eastern part of Qingzhou City, bordering Changle County and Shouguang County. It covers a total area of 84.1 square kilometers, with 83,000 mu of arable land, and administers 74 administrative villages, with a population of 54,000.

The town is widely known as a specialized production area for melons and vegetables. Out of its 83,000 mu of land, 80,000 mu are dedicated to melon and vegetable cultivation, yielding 500 million kilograms of produce annually, which is sold to more than 20 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions across the country. In recent years, the town has promoted pollution-free cultivation of melons and vegetables, establishing a pollution-free detection center for such produce, significantly improving their quality.
