Tomb of Xiao Wangzhi

The Tomb of Xiao Wangzhi is a cultural heritage protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Tomb of Xiao Wangzhi dates back to the Han Dynasty. In 2013, it was designated as part of the fourth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units by the People's Government of Shandong Province.

The Tomb of Xiao Wangzhi is a site where members of the Xiao clan from across China honor their ancestors and is an important place for the inheritance of Xiao clan culture. In recent years, Lanling Town has followed the working guideline of “prioritizing protection, emphasizing rescue, making rational use, and strengthening management.” It has focused not only on effective protection and solid foundational work but also on rational utilization, heritage development, and the appropriate development of the Xiao Wangzhi Tomb Park, adding luster to Lanling’s cultural tourism. Covering an area of 86 mu, the Tomb Park has seen the first phase of construction launched in June 2010 with a total investment of over 18 million yuan. Major structures completed include the main hall, east and west side halls, memorial hall, stele pavilion, imperial pathway, tomb gate wall, and parking lot. The main hall has also been furnished to high standards based on historical records.

Xiao Wangzhi (approximately 114 BC – 47 BC), courtesy name Changqian, was the sixth-generation descendant of Xiao He (as recorded in the Book of Southern Qi and the Book of Liang). He was a native of Donghai Lanling (present-day Lanling Town, Lanling County, Shandong Province) and later relocated to Duling (southeast of present-day Xi’an, Shaanxi). He held official positions such as Minister Herald and Grand Tutor.

During the reign of Emperor Xuan of Han, he was recommended to Grand General Huo Guang by Bing Ji. However, because Wangzhi disapproved of Huo Guang’s arrogance, he did not gain his favor. Lanling Town: Located at the junction of two provinces, three cities, and four counties/districts, Lanling Town covers a total area of 136 square kilometers, governs 114 villages, and has a population of 136,000. It has 149 party branches with 2,929 party members, including 114 rural party branches with 2,340 members, and 35 party branches in town-affiliated new and second-type organizations with 589 members.

Lanling boasts abundant resources, with gypsum reserves of 1.66 billion tons and iron ore reserves of 1.6 billion tons.
