Houyangguanzhuang Site

The Houyangguanzhuang Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Linyi City.

The Houyangguanzhuang Site is located about 700 meters north of Houyangguanzhuang Village, Shen Mountain Town, Cangshan County, dating back to the Neolithic Age, Zhou, Han, and Tang dynasties, and is classified as an ancient site.

Situated about 700 meters north of Houyangguanzhuang Village, Shen Mountain Town, Lanling County, on the eastern side of Yanzi River, the site has an elliptical layout, measuring roughly 400 meters in length from east to west and 250 meters in width from north to south, covering an area of around 100,000 square meters. From May to July 2010, to accommodate the construction of the Zaozhuang–Linyi Expressway, the Shandong Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology conducted an excavation project here. A total of 22 5×5-meter test pits were opened, with an overall excavation area of 753 square meters including extensions. Two ash pits, three ditches, and five tombs were salvaged and cleared, yielding over 300 artifacts including pottery, stone tools, bone tools, shell tools, horn tools, bronze ware, and ironware. Significant finds include a large stone axe and a double-hole crescent-shaped stone knife, both finely crafted with sharp, exquisite blades, making them especially valuable. The discovery of a stone drill cap reflects the widespread and increasingly sophisticated drilling techniques of the time, marking the first such find in the province. The site's continuity spans from the Dawenkou Culture, Longshan Culture, and Yueshi Culture all the way through the Zhou and Han periods, with residents still living there during the Tang Dynasty. It provides indispensable physical material for in-depth research on the characteristics and cultural connotations of the Dawenkou, Longshan, and Yueshi cultures in the Linyi region, as well as the history of the Zhou and Han periods, thus holding significant academic value.

The Houyangguanzhuang Site is among the third batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units.

Shen Mountain Town: Located in the eastern part of Lanling County, Shen Mountain Town covers a total area of 72 square kilometers, with 56,000 mu of arable land and a population of 54,000. The area enjoys convenient transportation, with the Beijing–Shanghai Expressway, Linyi–Zaozhuang Expressway, National Highway 206, Linyi’s Western Outer Ring Road, and Quanzhong Road all intersecting within its jurisdiction, giving it notable locational and transport advantages.

Shen Mountain is the birthplace and main production area of Cangshan garlic. Currently, garlic is cultivated on over 30,000 mu of land, yielding 50,000 tons of garlic sprouts and bulbs annually. The garlic produced here is known as the “World’s No. 1 Garlic” due to its significantly higher allicin content compared to other producing areas, and it won a silver award at the Kunming World Expo.
