The Ancestral Hall of the Song Family in Hangtou is a cultural relic protection unit of Linyi City.

The Ancestral Hall of the Song Family in Hangtou is located southwest of Hangtou Village, Xiangcheng Town, Cangshan County. It dates back to the Ming and Qing dynasties and is classified as an ancient architectural structure.

The ancestral hall was first built in September of the ninth year of the Chongzhen era during the Ming Dynasty (1636), initiated by Song Zhifu, Song Zhihan, and others from the ninth generation of the Song family. It was renovated in the 23rd year of the Jiaqing era (1818) by Song Xianzhang and others from the fifteenth generation of the Song family, and restored again after the Cultural Revolution in the 1960s. The hall currently consists of nine rooms: a main hall with three rooms facing south, featuring a corridor and entirely wooden pillars. The front of the main hall houses a later-added shrine that enshrines the memorial tablets of the Song ancestors, with ancestral grave steles erected in the right side of the shrine, dating back to the Wanli era and 1935 (the 24th year of the Republic of China). The main hall has a brick-and-wood structure with a flush gable roof covered in gray tubular tiles, featuring decorative ridge tiles such as “cat’s head” designs. The doors on either side of the main hall are adorned with “book-shaped” windows. The east and west side halls each have three rooms, sharing the same structure as the main hall. The gate tower is also of brick-and-wood construction, with upturned eaves decorated with auspicious patterns. On either side of the southern wall inside the courtyard are steles listing donors and land contributors for the hall’s renovation, along with a stele dedicated to “Mr. Luo.” This ancestral hall is a well-preserved ancient structure left by the prominent Song family of Cangshan, covering an area of 600 square meters with dimensions of 23 meters from east to west and 26 meters from north to south. It provides important insights into the architectural style, folk culture, and historical background of Linyi City during the Ming and Qing periods.
