The Dongchengzi Site in Lanling

The Dongchengzi Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Lanling County.

The Dongchengzi Site is a county-level key cultural heritage protection unit. It is located behind Dongchengzi Village in Dazhongcun Town, with the Wenhe River to its west. The central and southern parts of the site are obscured by residential buildings. As a high-platform site, it measures approximately 130 meters from east to west and about 120 meters from north to south, covering a total area of around 15,600 square meters. The high-platform accumulation is about 7 meters high. The northern and eastern parts of the site have been excavated to a depth of 40 meters, where distinct cultural layers are visible, with soil strata containing layers of red fired earth and a large number of plant particles. Collected samples include early Dawenkou culture sandy round-pointed tripod feet, Longshan culture black pottery shards, Spring and Autumn period li tripod feet, gray pottery dou vessels and basin fragments from the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, as well as Han dynasty tiles. This site, discovered at an early date and with a long period of continuity, is an important cultural site spanning the Neolithic Age, the Shang and Zhou dynasties, and the Qin and Han dynasties. It is currently a county-level key cultural heritage protection unit of Lanling County.
