The Snowy Wilderness Modern Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park, also known as the Snowy Wilderness Agricultural Expo Park, is located on the northwest bank of the Snowy Wilderness Reservoir in Laiwu District, Jinan City, Shandong Province. It is 30 km from the center of Laiwu District, 32 km from Zhangqiu City, and 46 km from downtown Jinan. The park is conveniently accessible right at the Snowy Wilderness exit of the Jilaiqing Expressway, offering easy transportation and beautiful scenery. It is a national 4A-level tourist attraction.

Shandong Snowy Wilderness Agricultural Expo Park is nestled on the picturesque and tranquil northwest shore of Snowy Wilderness Lake in Laiwu City, where clear waters ripple gently. It is 46 km from downtown Jinan, and can be easily reached by exiting the Jiqing Expressway (Shanghai-bound) at the Snowy Wilderness exit and turning right. The park offers convenient transportation and beautiful scenery. It is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction integrating eco-agricultural sightseeing, leisure vacations, recreational dining, business conferences, team-building training, and science education. Surrounded by lush green mountains on three sides and bordering shimmering lake waters on three others, the park features five high-tech greenhouses with a total area of 34,000 square meters. Here, over 2,000 plant species thrive, including tropical rainforest flora with a southern charm, exotic ginger plants, high-tech soilless-cultivated vegetables, and rare flowers—all competing in beauty and filling the air with delightful scents, offering visitors a serene return-to-nature experience. Additionally, the park has invested over 2 million yuan to build a Rural Handicrafts Exhibition Hall, which showcases the results of research on rural cultural industries in Shandong through literature, physical exhibits, and creative handicraft displays. The hall houses more than 4,000 items, including intangible cultural heritage (ICH) protected projects, rural handicraft products, and modern handicraft design works by faculty and students of the Shandong Institute of Arts and Design, featuring distinct cultural characteristics and academic value. The Snowy Wilderness Agricultural Expo Park also features a 5,000-square-meter indoor children’s playground, where temperatures in all exhibition areas remain above 23°C, providing a warm and cozy experience even in winter.

Shandong Snowy Wilderness Agricultural Expo Park – Tropical Botanical Garden: Covering a total area of about 10,000 square meters, it is the largest tropical botanical garden in Shandong Province, home to over 200 species of tropical plants, mainly banyan and coconut trees. Among them are the park’s three treasured highlights: a banyan tree over 24 meters tall, resembling the dragon, a totem of the Chinese nation, hence called the “Dragon Tree”; a 600-year-old longan tree; and a thousand-year-old Vietnamese cycad. Though ancient, the cycad stands tall with lush foliage.

Shandong Snowy Wilderness Agricultural Expo Park – Ginger Garden: The core section of the park, it is the only ginger-themed exhibition hall in China. As the “Hometown of Ginger” nationwide, Laiwu is known for the saying “ten tons of steel per capita, one ton of ginger per household.” The Ginger Garden in the Snowy Wilderness Agricultural Expo Park is truly unique among similar agricultural parks. Covering an area of 5,000 square meters, it houses 150 species of ginger plants from 25 genera both in China and abroad, divided into three main zones: ornamental ginger, medicinal ginger, and edible ginger. Visitors can admire various exotic ginger flowers while also gaining scientific knowledge.

Highlights: The Giant Ginger Specimen, Red Bract Closed Ginger, Porcelain Rose Ginger, Statue of Shennong, Premium Vine Corridor; 68 types of edible ginger, 52 types of ornamental and medicinal ginger.

Shandong Snowy Wilderness Agricultural Expo Park – Tropical Fruit Garden: Covering an area of 5,000 square meters, it is the largest tropical fruit garden in Shandong Province, featuring over 60 types of tropical fruits such as red honey pomelo, navel oranges, dragon fruit, and lychee. It not only showcases the beautiful scenery of the south but also serves as an important science education resource for children and teenagers in the north.
