Wang Xuezhong Art Museum

The Wang Xuezhong Art Museum is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

The Wang Xuezhong Art Museum is located in the eastern part of Tengzhou City, bordered by the city moat on the left, connected to a major thoroughfare on the right, with the Longquan Pagoda in front and the twin peaks of Longgu Valley behind. The foundation was laid in March 1987, and the museum was completed in March 1988. Covering an area of 0.196 hectares with a construction area of 1,250 square meters, it is a serene and elegant southern-style residential building featuring white walls and black tiles. The main gate faces west, with a plaque hanging above the gatehouse inscribed with the six large characters “Wang Xuezhong Art Museum” written by the renowned painter Guan Shanyue.

The western part of the museum is a green space, while the eastern section houses exhibition rooms, artifact storage, calligraphy and painting studios, reception rooms, living quarters, and a lecture hall. The buildings are interconnected by corridors, and the inner courtyard gate is located southwest. The courtyard features a clear pool, connected by a bridge and adorned with flowers and plants, adding to its tranquil and peaceful ambiance. The main hall to the north has two floors with a suspended roof design, while the lecture hall features a flush-gable roof. The contrast between the “suspended” and “flush” styles is both distinct and harmoniously integrated. The reception hall breaks from the conventions of northern architecture, avoiding the traditional central ridge of a double-sloped roof with equal slopes on both sides. Instead, it adopts the distinctive style of southern Zhechuan — a suspended roof with a short front slope and a long rear slope. A grape trellis is set up between the south slope and the inner courtyard, with green vines cascading down. The combination of green leaves, white walls, brown floor-to-ceiling glass windows, and the undulating gray roofs creates a uniquely refreshing architectural design.

The museum houses a calligraphy and painting exhibition hall, a lecture hall, and the Minxue Research Association. Its mission is to promote national culture, facilitate the exchange of Chinese and international art, and collect, exhibit, and research the artistic philosophy of Wang Xuezhong.

Known for integrating art exhibitions, academic research, and artistic exchange, it is hailed as the “Pearl of Ancient Teng” and the “Lanting of Northern China.”
