Lianqing Mountain is known for its many peaks, valleys, and caves, earning the nickname “99-peaked Lianqing Mountain.” Its main peak, Lotus Peak, stands at an elevation of 720 meters, while the secondary peak, East Lianqing Mountain, reaches 603 meters. Notable peaks include Lotus Peak, Great Temple Peak, Jade Maiden Peak, and Mount Motianling; and famous valleys include Tongtian Grand Canyon, Lovers’ Valley, Locust Flower Valley, Lotus Pond Canyon, North-South Ridge Valley, Hulutao, Steep Valley, Running Water Valley, Chair Circle Valley, Peach Blossom Mountain Cave, Ten-Thousand-People Cave, Immortal Cave, Waterfall Cave, and Hua Tuo Cave. The caves and valleys form an interconnected network with countless openings, where leisurely-floating white clouds drift through the crevices, giving the impression from afar that the peaks themselves are emitting clouds. Visitors wandering amidst them feel as though they are floating among the immortals.
Lianqing Mountain is a “kingdom of plants,” with a forest coverage rate of 93% and 50,000 negative oxygen ions per cubic meter. It is home to 113 families and 520 species of trees and plants, including major tree species such as Chinese pine, Japanese red pine, oriental arborvitae, torch tree, eucommia, American swamp cypress, and red maple. There are numerous fruit trees, including 30,000 that are over a hundred years old, and more than 300 varieties of wild medicinal herbs. Many rare birds and animals thrive in the forest, including 12 species under national protection, 14 species of nationally protected birds (Classes I and II), 2 species of protected mammals, and even a rare northern species—a century-old python about 15 centimeters in diameter, commonly known as “Black Grass.”
Lianqing Mountain has a long history and rich culture, along with beautiful and moving legends. It is also an important part of the Yan culture and the birthplace of Lu Ban, the ancestral master of Chinese craftsmanship.
The mountain landscapes, valley views, water scenes, forest scenery, rock formations, and caves of Lianqing Mountain combine the grandeur of Mount Tai, the beauty of Huangshan, and the peril of Huashan, earning it the reputation of being a “comprehensive mountain landscape.”
