Moci Wetland Park

Moci Wetland Park is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Moci Wetland Park is situated in the central-southern part of the Southern Shandong High-Tech Chemical Industrial Park, adjacent to the national-level Moci Forest Park and the country’s largest coal chemical R&D and production base. It borders Mount Baodugu to the east, faces Weishan Lake to the west, connects to the cultural sites of Confucius and Mencius to the north, and lies near the ruins of the ancient Xue State to the south. The park is just 1 km from the Mush Stone exit of the Beijing–Taipei Expressway and 16 km from the Tengzhou East Station of the Beijing–Shanghai High-Speed Railway. With superior transportation access and abundant ecological resources, the area boasts a beautiful natural environment. This is the birthplace of Mozi, the Sage of Science, as well as the former territory of the ancient states of Muyi and Xiao Zhu. Historically part of the Dongyi region, it was where the descendants of the Yan Emperor thrived and where the Dongyi culture originated. Later, descendants of the Yellow Emperor, including Cao Xia and his lineage, integrated Yanhuang culture, gradually forming the Zhu Lou culture, which evolved into the Zoulu culture. By the time of Yifu Yan, this area had become a cultural hub of the East, thus regarded as the birthplace of Dongyi, Zhu Lou, and Zoulu cultures. It was also the most dynamic region for science, technology, and ideological culture in the pre-Qin era, earning the titles “Hometown of Craftsmanship and Sages” and “Land of Eastern Gentlemen.” Within this not-so-vast land, great figures emerged in succession, such as Mozi, the “Sage of Science,” Lu Ban, the “Father of Craftsmanship,” Xi Zhong, the pioneer of chariot-making, Meng Changjun, who recruited talents far and wide, and Mao Sui, who boldly volunteered himself—truly a place of remarkable heritage and rich culture, known as “a land steeped in history and a nation flourishing with culture.” Within a 100-km radius to the true north, Confucius, Mozi, and Mencius were all born, hence called the “Three Sages within a Hundred Li.” Both Confucian and Mohist cultures originated here, shaping the most brilliant chapter of China’s Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods.

The wetland covers an area of 4 square kilometers, with a focus on environmental water treatment. It also serves multiple functions, including ecological landscaping, environmental education, cultural heritage, science popularization, and leisure recreation. Currently, it has become the largest wetland within a chemical industrial park in China. The site has completed its application for provincial wetland park status and has successfully passed the evaluations for both national AAA-level scenic area and provincial environmental education base.
