Tengzhou National Defense Science and Technology Education Base

The Tengzhou National Defense Science and Technology Education Base is a national AAA-level tourist attraction, as well as a science education base, patriotic education base, and national defense education base.

The Tengzhou Martyrs' Cemetery (National Defense Science and Technology Education Base) is a key provincial-level martyrs' memorial protection unit approved by the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government. The cemetery is situated on Renshan Mountain in Dawu Town, an area of picturesque landscape. It has a planned area of 621 mu, a building area of 11,300 square meters, and an exhibition area of 30,000 square meters. Major commemorative facilities include the Memorial Hall of the Armed Uprising of the People of Southern Shandong Against Japanese Aggression, the Monument, the Pavilion of Monuments to Famous Martyrs, the Martyrs’ Garden, the National Defense Science and Technology Education City, and the Large Weapons Exhibition Plaza.

The Memorial Hall of the Armed Uprising of the People of Southern Shandong Against Japanese Aggression consists of a prelude hall, a party building hall, an anti-Japanese war hall, a liberation hall, a development hall, and a commemoration hall. The museum features large-scale multimedia thematic scenario theaters such as the "Defense of Tengxian County," "The Railway Guerrillas," "The Liberation of Tengxian County," and "The Beishahe Massacre." These exhibits are detailed, thematically focused, and vividly presented.

The Monument to the Armed Uprising of the People of Southern Shandong Against Japanese Aggression. The monument stands 38 meters tall, symbolizing the first shot fired by the people of southern Shandong in 1938 under the leadership of the Party to resist the Japanese invaders and defend their homeland.

The Pavilion of Monuments to Famous Martyrs and the Martyrs’ Garden. On both sides of the main memorial monument are pavilions commemorating famous martyrs such as Wang Mingzhang, Wang Lushui, Ma Lixun, Hong Zhenhai, and Chen Jinhe. The “Martyrs’ Garden,” covering an area of 3,000 square meters, is built along the mountain slope and is the resting place of 790 martyrs who sacrificed their lives for national independence, people’s liberation, and social development.

The National Defense Science and Technology Education City consists of a manned spaceflight simulation exhibition hall, a weapons and equipment exhibition hall, an aerospace science and technology exhibition hall, a screening hall, and a hall showcasing the achievements of generals. Each exhibition hall uses high-tech methods such as interactive displays and virtual reality to present space science and technology and the future. Real objects, simulations, and experiential technologies are used to focus on showcasing the development history of China’s land, sea, and air weapons and equipment, as well as the glorious achievements of the country’s space industry.

The Large Weapons Exhibition Plaza. It mainly displays aircraft such as the Type 5 Bomber, artillery, the Dongfeng-1 short-range surface-to-surface strategic missile, the J-6 fighter jet, the JJ-5 trainer jet, the Hong-2 surface-to-air missile, and the Dongfeng-21 medium-range ballistic missile. Ten distinguished astronauts including Yang Liwei have visited the base for tours and guidance, and have donated a large number of space-related items.

The Tengzhou Martyrs' Cemetery has been successively designated as a “National Anti-Japanese War Memorial Facility,” “National Defense Education Demonstration Base,” “National AAA-Level Tourist Attraction,” “National Science Education Base,” “Shandong Provincial Key Martyrs’ Memorial Building Protection Unit,” “Shandong Provincial National Defense Education Base,” “Shandong Provincial Anti-Corruption and Integrity Education Base,” “Shandong Provincial Patriotic Education Base,” “Shandong Provincial Party History Education Base,” “Shandong Provincial Social Science Popularization Education Base,” the “Advanced Military Culture Practice Base” of the Shandong Provincial Corps of the Armed Police, and multiple other honors. It has now become a comprehensive education base in southern Shandong for patriotic education, red revolution education, public perspective education, and national defense and aerospace science and technology education.
