Wujiao Hot Spring Bath Resort

The Wujiao hot spring (site) emerges in the marshland of Guandang, Wujiao Township, Ruichang City. After hydrogeological exploration conducted by the Northwest Jiangxi Geological Team of the Jiangxi Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Exploration, a hydrogeological report has been submitted. Preliminary findings indicate that the geothermal water originates from deep siliceous rocks and surfaces through fault structures. Pumping tests measured a surface water temperature of 40°C, classifying it as a medium-temperature hot spring, with a flow rate of 400–600 tons per day and stable water source dynamics (according to the geological exploration report, due to the current limited drilling depth, the main geothermal channel has not yet been fully penetrated; further work may lead to increased water volume and temperature). Water quality analysis by the Jiangxi Central Laboratory of the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources shows that it meets development requirements for mineral water, medical use, and aquaculture. In April 1999, the Northwest Jiangxi Geological Team drilled a borehole in the geothermal hot spring area (borehole casing diameter approximately 6 inches of steel pipe), where geothermal hot spring water can be observed gushing out 24 hours a day. According to the hydrogeological survey report, the Wujiao hot spring resources and geological conditions are favorable, allowing for preliminary development work, with promising development prospects.

Development as drinking mineral water: Testing by the provincial central laboratory shows that Wujiao hot spring water is clear, transparent, colorless, and odorless. Originating from deep siliceous rocks, it contains abundant trace elements and minerals. With the exception of slightly excessive strontium content, the levels of 17 other controlled elements—including lithium—comply with the standards for natural drinking mineral water. The (H2SiO3) content is 41.12 mg/L, classifying it as a metasilicic acid (silicic acid) mineral water, making it suitable for development as drinking mineral water. However, with the continuous development and competition of various beverage products in the market, new drinks continuously entering and impacting the beverage market, traditional mineral water products find it difficult to stand out. Additionally, although the excessive strontium content in Wujiao hot spring water can be treated to meet standards, the cost of developing it as drinking mineral water is high, making it hard to compete on price with many other beverages. Furthermore, it does not make full use of the resource’s thermal energy. Therefore, developing it as drinking mineral water would not make efficient use of the resource and could only serve as a supplementary project to the hot spring development. Nevertheless, given the large flow of the Wujiao hot spring, whether to develop it as mineral water can be considered in the future based on market demand and investment scale.
