Taiwan Tour Group Encounters Landslide in Hubei’s Three Gorges; Tourism Bureau Releases Casualty List

A Taiwan tour group encountered a landslide this (15th) morning in the Three Gorges scenic area of Yichang City, Hubei Province, China. Three people are known to have died and two have been injured. The Tourism Bureau released the casualty list this afternoon.

The Tourism Bureau stated that the Dongsheng Travel Agency organized a 45-person tour group to mainland China from October 13 to 19. On the morning of the 15th, the group encountered a landslide in the Three Gorges scenic area of Yichang City, Hubei Province, China. Rescue efforts including continuous digging are ongoing at the scene. Currently, three tourists are confirmed dead:

Li 0 Qiang (Male, 49 years old)
Wang 0 Hong (Female, 55 years old)
Ge 0 Qiang (Male, 54 years old)

In addition, two tourists were injured:

Yang 0 Xuan (Female, 35 years old)
Kong 0 Chang (Male, 66 years old)

The Tourism Bureau said it had immediately contacted the travel agency to understand the situation and instructed the tour leader to handle the matter properly. It also notified the Mainland Affairs Council, the Travel Agent Association of ROC, and the Taipei Travel Agents Association to actively assist. The Tourism Bureau has also asked the Dongsheng Travel Agency to continue monitoring the needs of the group members in Hubei and provide necessary assistance, as well as properly handle subsequent medical treatment and insurance claims for the group.

A representative from the Tourism Bureau’s Beijing Office (Chief Ren Taiping) will be dispatched to the accident site this afternoon (15th) to assist.
