In October 1934, after the main force of the Red Army was forced to begin the Long March, the revolutionary situation in southern provinces deteriorated sharply. In June 1935, Tian Ying led his troops to Wangxiaoyuan to carry out guerrilla warfare, established the Du-Hu-Po-Peng Central County Committee of the Communist Party of China, and served as its secretary; he also formed the Du-Hu-Po-Peng Guerrilla Brigade of the Red Army and concurrently served as its political commissar, establishing the Du-Hu-Po-Peng guerrilla base area centered on Mount Wushan. Relying on the support of local people, the Du-Hu-Po-Peng Central County Committee carried out three years of arduous guerrilla warfare. In December 1937, Tian Ying led over 250 guerrilla fighters to Fuliang to undergo the “Yaoli Reorganization” under the leadership of Comrade Chen Yi, and were incorporated into the 7th Company of the 3rd Battalion of the 2nd Regiment of the 1st Detachment of the New Fourth Army, marching to the front lines of the War of Resistance.
