Hanxianyan
Hanxianyan is a national scenic area and a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.
Hanxianyan is located in Yunmenling, Huichang County, at the junction of Fujian, Guangdong, and Jiangxi provinces, and is the most typical danxia landform in southern Jiangxi. Legend has it that this is where Han Zhongli, one of the "Eight Immortals," attained enlightenment, so besides the bizarre and diverse danxia rock formations, visitors can also find various landscapes related to the culture of the Eight Immortals, learning about their legend stories through sculptures.
The main way to explore the scenic area is on foot. Several challenging mountain passes offer a sense of adventure. Passing through the Hezhang Gate, formed by two large rocks joined together, marks the official start of the Hanxianyan tour. This gate is extremely narrow, allowing only one person to crawl through carefully. Behind it is an open area resembling a courtyard, with many inscriptions on the stone walls. The most eye-catching is Wen Tianxiang’s inscription “Long Live the Emperor.” Further along the trail, the most thrilling part is the “Parrot Turn,” and after passing through the “One-Line Sky,” you’ll reach a mountain pass with a path leading up to the summit on the left. At the top, there is a temple believed to be very effective for prayer and wish-making.
As a provincial-level scenic area, Huichang Hanxianyan is situated at the junction of Fujian, Guangdong, and Jiangxi provinces. It got its name from the legend that Han Zhongli, one of the Eight Immortals, attained enlightenment here. The area features uniquely shaped mountains and rocks, presenting a landscape that is both beautiful and full of wonder. Everything you see is spectacular, with a total of 36 scenic spots. Each spot contains smaller scenes within it, and each scene comes with its own legend. Examples include the Elephant Emerging from the Mountain, Monk's Hat Rock, Stone Bamboo Shoot Peak, Eagle Perching Rock, Lion Rock, Turtle Rock, Tiger Head Rock, Monkey Gazing at the Moon, and Dragon Stone Ascending to Heaven... These naturally-formed attractions resemble human postures and animals, vividly bringing to life creatures from all walks of nature, sparking endless imagination. The area also has numerous sheer cliffs and perilous peaks that seem to pierce the sky. Dangerous rocks jut out abruptly, and looking up, they appear as if they might fall at any moment, making your heart race. The One-Line Sky is as narrow, deep, dangerous, and serene as a blade-cut slit. Each scenic spot in Hanxianyan combines elements of danger, wonder, beauty, and elegance.
