Luxi Cave

Luxi Cave Scenic Area is situated in Luxi Town, Wuning County, at an altitude of 230 meters. This cave is a typical developing karst cave, with an entrance 2 meters high and a width inside ranging from 10 to 20 meters, extending endlessly into the depths. The height inside the cave varies greatly, reaching up to about 20 meters in some areas, while in others one has to walk with their head bowed. An underground river runs throughout the cave, interweaving with land sections. The average annual temperature inside the cave is around 18°C. It is hailed as the "Underground Crystal Palace of Southern China" and a "Famous Natural Karst Cave with Notable Waterways in Asia." In October 2003, experts in speleology from China, the UK, the US, and other countries confirmed through investigation that Luxi Cave has an evolutionary history of approximately 250 million years.

Through the ingenious design and lighting arrangement by renowned Chinese karst cave lighting designers, the various stalactites inside the cave have been transformed into over 100 scenic spots such as Moon Reflected in Dragon Pool, Heavenly River Waterfall, Divine Turtle Drinking Jade Liquid, Old Man Washing Hair, Lion Rolling a Ball, and Immortal’s Terraced Fields, stretching over ten li. Each scene is vividly lifelike with realistic forms, giving visitors a magical and otherworldly feeling as if they’ve entered a fairyland. Additionally, outside the cave there are attractions such as Lotus Pond Waterfall, Divine Turtle Swimming Upstream, Lovers’ Rock, and Alpine Meadow.

Originally named "Luqi Cave" (meaning the cave where the Duke of Lu took refuge), it is said that during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, when Emperor Qin Shi Huang conquered the six states, the Duke of Lu sought refuge here with three hundred followers and lived in this cave for three years. To this day, carvings resembling oracle bone script can still be faintly seen on the cave walls. However, over time, with the constant flow of spring water year-round, people came to call it "Luxi Cave." Later, scholars and literati throughout the ages came to explore the wonders of Luxi Cave. Many poets and writers from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties visited Luxi Cave and left behind poems in its praise. General Li Liejun, a revolutionary leader of the Xinhai Revolution, also explored Luxi Cave on three separate occasions.

Luxi Town: Luxi Town in Wuning County is located on the northeastern border of the county, covering a total area of 168.5 square kilometers. It governs 16 administrative villages, 187 villager groups, and has a total population of over 32,000. The town has 28 Party branches with a total of 1,058 Party members.
