Taohuajian

Taohuajian is a cluster of mountains situated at the junction of Wuning and Yongxiu counties. From a distance, it looks like five blooming peach blossom petals, which is why it has been called “Taohuajian” since ancient times.

The ridgeline of Taohuajian belongs to the same mountain range as Wuwang Peak, with an elevation of 942.7 meters. Its summit is flat and spans several zhang in width. Legend has it that after the Peach Blossom Goddess lost a battle of magic against demons, she came here to recuperate, and the ruins of an ancient temple can still be found today. In 1924, Gan Fengshan from Xinyang, Henan, came to this mountain and set himself up as a local warlord, becoming a thorn in the side of the local gentry. In 1937, when the Marco Polo Bridge Incident triggered the War of Resistance, General Li Liejun returned to Wuning and was invited by the local peasant militia on Taohuajian to become their leader. He persuaded them, with appeals to patriotism and national duty, to accept reorganization and join the fight for the country.
