Tomb of Li Liejun

The Tomb of Li Liejun is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

About 80 meters northwest of the Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument in Wuning County, Jiujiang City, stands a rectangular tomb constructed of reinforced concrete, nestled among lush pines and cypresses. A tall bluestone stele prominently bears an inscription in bold red Wei-style calligraphy: “Tomb of General Li Liejun and Madam Hua Shiqi.”

The tomb faces west. It is built on a cement platform that is 9 meters long and 7 meters wide, with a nearly 1-meter-high, concave-shaped six-pillar railing at the front. On both sides at the rear of the tomb chamber, there are six steps each to allow visitors to ascend and descend. The tomb chamber itself is rectangular, constructed of reinforced concrete, featuring a flat overhanging roof. Below the roof and between the four pillars, except for the front section which is fitted with a cement panel that holds the tombstone, the other three sides are enclosed by carved half-height railings. The base is built as two-tiered platforms, and the tomb pavilion is 2.7 meters high and 3 meters long, presenting a solemn and dignified appearance.

Born on February 23, 1882, in Wuning, Jiangxi, he joined the Tongmenghui in his early years and graduated from the Imperial Japanese Army Academy in 1908. During the Xinhai Revolution, he served as Chief of Staff of the Jiujiang Military Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy, leading troops to support Wuchang and was later appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Joint Forces of Jiangsu, Anhui, Guangdong, Hubei, and Jiangxi. In 1912, he became the Governor of Jiangxi. In 1913, he initiated the Hukou Uprising (known historically as the “Second Revolution”), being the first to raise the anti-Yuan banner; in 1915, in Kunming, Yunnan, he organized the Protection of the Republic movement with Cai E and Tang Jiyao, once again rising against Yuan Shikai, historically known as the “Yunnan Uprising.” He followed Dr. Sun Yat-sen in the revolution for fourteen years… For more detailed information about Li Liejun ++
