Dragon Head Cliff

Dragon Head Cliff is a great spot to view clouds and mist. When thick fog rolls in, clouds surge up from the deep valleys, making the cliff seem as if it’s floating in a vast sea of clouds. Standing on the rock, visitors feel as though they’re riding the clouds and misting through the sky, or like riding a dragon exploring the ocean, playing with the waves. Before long, the heavy fog dissipates, revealing a bright blue sky and sunshine, with lush greenery all around. In the distance, valleys, power stations, rivers, fields, and farmhouses are clearly visible.

Looking down from the railing at Dragon Head Cliff into the stone valley gorge, you can see many scenic spots such as Lion Rock, Square Seal Rock, Manjusri Rock, Cool Breeze Rock, and Ten-Thousand-Zhang Ladder, featuring a variety of uniquely shaped rocks.

On the southwestern side of the Great Heavenly Lake, a cliff rises a thousand feet from the ground, overlooking a sheer ravine, hanging in mid-air like a dragon raising its head and dancing beyond the sky. This is the famous scenic spot “Dragon Head Cliff.” Visitors who look at it from the stone pavilion on the left side of the cliff will see the steep cliff wall with a rock lying across it, just like a dragon lifting its head. A few twisted pines rooted in the crevices of the cliff sway gently in the breeze, resembling the dragon’s whiskers fluttering.

Transportation

It can be found by descending several hundred meters along the stone steps on the southwestern side of the Great Heavenly Lake.

Dragon Head Cliff is located within the Mount Lu Scenic Area. The following are ways to reach Mount Lu:

By Car: 1. From Jiujiang: Take the Lu Mountain Ring Road to the East Gate of Mount Lu. 2. From Nanchang: Take the Beijing-Kowloon Expressway, exit at Xingzi, and then follow the Lu Mountain Ring Road.

By Bus: Opposite the Armed Police Detachment at Sanli Street (Jiujiang) or Shilou Building (about a 30-minute ride, every 15 minutes, from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM)
