Guixi Immortal Bridge

About one kilometer southeast of the urban area, there is a rock formation with a hollow beneath it, resembling a bridge soaring high over a mountain valley. Because its hollow center resembles the moon, it is called Moon Bridge Rock.

The rock stretches from east to west, with steep cliffs about ten meters high on the western side; the eastern slope is gentle, allowing visitors to walk up to the top. The top is a high, round dome, covering approximately twenty square meters. From the top, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire city of Guixi.

Five meters west of Moon Bridge Rock stands a peculiar rock about four meters tall, shaped like an elderly man sitting upright, as if guarding the Moon Bridge Rock. Hence, Moon Bridge is also known as Immortal Bridge.

In Xu Xiake’s Travel Diaries, Moon Bridge Rock is described as having “a craftsmanship so exquisite it could rival a rainbow bridge built by magpies, though perhaps even that cannot compare.”

Inscriptions were once found on the rock face: “Here lie the traces of immortals—have the immortals truly been here? Wildflowers always bloom with smiles, and birds sing freely in the hills.”
