Cenxi Soft Branch Tea Oil
Cenxi Soft Branch Tea Oil is China’s first improved variety of tea oil. It gets its name from its soft branches, most of which curve gently downward. Through the use of plant asexual propagation technology and continuous selection, the Cenxi Soft Branch Tea Oil Seed Garden in Cenxi City cultivated two high-yield asexual strains, Cenruan No. 2 and No. 3. These strains were awarded the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the Guangxi Regional Forestry Department in 1991, the Third Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the National Forestry Ministry in 1992, recognized as a high-quality tree variety in Guangxi by the Guangxi Tree Variety Evaluation Committee in 2004, and designated as a national-level high-quality tree variety in 2008.
Currently, over 40,000 mu of soft branch tea oil forests have been planted across the city, including 5,000 mu that have entered the initial production stage. By 2015, all of these will have fully entered the fruit-bearing period, with 5,000 mu reaching peak yield. It is estimated that more than 22,500 tons of tea oil fruits can be produced, yielding over 1,000 tons of pressed tea oil.
Cenxi Soft Branch Tea Oil is an evergreen species that thrives in warm, humid climates. It has a wide adaptability range, is drought- and poor-soil-resistant, and shows certain cold tolerance. Primarily grown for its fruit, it offers advantages such as fast growth, early fruiting, high yield, strong resistance, and high-quality oil. The fruits mature in mid to late October, with seeds containing 51.37–53.6% oil, an acid value of 1.06–1.46, and a refractive index of 1.4672. The pressed camellia oil produced is of premium quality—yellow, transparent, fragrant, and free of bitterness—and can be consumed directly. Camellia oil helps lower cholesterol, prevent hypertension and cardiovascular diseases, and also has effects such as clearing heat and dampness, soothing the stomach, lubricating the intestines, and treating abdominal pain. It is hailed as “China’s olive oil.”
Currently, the Guangxi Chazilong Forestry Science and Technology Development Co., Ltd., established through investment attraction in Cenxi City, is a specialized company engaged in the pressing and deep processing of camellia oil. With an annual production capacity of 1,500 tons, its main product, Shouzhiyuan Organic Camellia Seed Oil, contains no food additives and is considered a top-tier oil product in China. It was designated as the official edible oil for the 10th China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit.
