Hong Kong people often say, “Wong Tai Sin grants every wish.” Legend has it that Wong Tai Sin was an immortal who traveled far and wide to save people and bring blessings. The Wong Tai Sin Temple is not only highly popular but also constantly visited by devout worshippers. In the temple, followers worship an image of Wong Tai Sin, which is quite different from the typical statue worship seen in other temples. This tradition dates back to 1915, when Taoist monk Leung Yan brought an image of Wong Tai Sin to Hong Kong to spread his teachings. After several miraculous events, public faith grew, leading to the construction of the temple in 1921. The annual “first incense” tradition during Chinese New Year has become the temple’s most popular event, attracting over 100,000 worshippers and adding lively energy to the site. Wong Tai Sin Legend: It is said that Wong Tai Sin was originally named Huang Chuping. According to the “Jinhua Chisong Mountain Annals” from the Song Dynasty, he was born in 328 AD in Lanxi City, Jinhua County, Zhejiang Province. He was once a shepherd on Jinhua Mountain but later became an immortal after being guided by a deity on Chisong Mountain. Originally a deity worshipped in the Zhejiang region, Wong Tai Sin gradually gained popularity along the Guangdong coast during the Ming and Qing dynasties, with his most famous miracle being the “calling stones into sheep” story.
