The Site of the 15th Grotto-Heaven of Taoism

The Site of the 15th Grotto-Heaven of Taoism (including Sū Qín Terrace, Zhāng Yí Well, Sūn Bìn Stockade, Páng Juān Well, the former site of Níngzhēn Temple, and Guǐgǔzǐ Cave) is located in Guixi City. In March 2018, it was designated as part of the sixth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units in Jiangxi Province.

The Site of the 15th Grotto-Heaven of Taoism is located on the mountainside of Yúnmèng Mountain, Mǎdì Village, Lěngshuǐ Town, Guixi City, Jiangxi Province, China. It lies to the southeast of Mount Longhu and is recognized as the 15th of the Thirty-Six Grotto-Heavens. At the foot of Guǐgǔ Cave there was originally Níngzhēn Temple, a Zhengyi sect temple that served as a place for worshipping ancestral deities and celestial beings within the 15th Grotto-Heaven of Taoism. It was first built during the Southern Tang Dynasty, but was repeatedly damaged and rebuilt over time, leaving only ruins today. At the end of 1998, a statue of the Immortal Guǐgǔ was erected on the original site.

Guǐgǔ Cave is located on the mountainside of Yúnmèng Mountain, Mǎdì Village, Lěngshuǐ Town, Guixi City, Jiangxi Province, China. It lies to the southeast of Mount Longhu and is recognized as the 15th of the Thirty-Six Grotto-Heavens. According to the Ming Yi Tong Zhi (Comprehensive Gazetteer of the Ming Dynasty), Guǐgǔzi, originally named Wáng Xǔ, was a person from the time of Duke Ping of Jin during the Spring and Autumn Period. He once went to Yúnmèng Mountain to gather herbs and lived in Guǐgǔ Valley by the Qingxi Stream, hence his name.
