The Banshan Academy was originally built during the Northern Song Dynasty, located on the mountainside southeast of Mingzhu Peak, east of the village. It was initially named “Yunfeng Academy.” When Wang Anshi’s grandfather, Wang Yongzhi, passed away, Wang Anshi returned to his hometown from Shaoguan with his father, Wang Yi, to observe the mourning period and studied at Yunfeng Academy for three years.
