Meitang Ziguo Chan Temple

Meitang Ziguo Chan Temple is a national AA-level tourist attraction and a cultural tourism site.

Located at the foot of Longxu Mountain in Meitang Township, Ji'an County, Jiangxi Province, it is one of the important practice sites of Qingyuan Mountain, a sacred place of Zen Buddhism. First built during the Tang Dynasty over 1,200 years ago, it has been destroyed by several major fires and subsequently rebuilt. The current temple complex covers an area of about 5,000 square meters.

The temple faces southeast and is situated to the northwest, featuring structures in sequence such as the mountain gate, merit pool, bell and drum towers, and the Mahavira Hall, where the large Buddha statue inside stands approximately 6 meters tall, making it the largest Buddha statue in Jiangxi. Ziguo Temple has gone through multiple periods of prosperity and decline, having been rebuilt during the Tang, Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties. In 2000, the grand and imposing mountain gate and enclosing walls were renovated. In 2002, the magnificent Mahavira Hall was reconstructed, along with the enshrinement of the bronze statue of the Tathagata and the Eighteen Arhats. Since then, the Kṣitigarbha Hall from the Guangxu era of the Qing Dynasty has also been restored, and other structures such as the Thousand-Armed and Thousand-Eyed Guanyin Hall, the Heavenly King Hall, and the Heavenly Crown Maitreya Pavilion have been completed.
