There is a Qingshu Temple in Hualien that was established for Japanese immigrants, and on November 20th, a series of celebratory events and exhibitions will be held. Visitors and local residents are welcome to join in the festivities. The event will also feature a Japanese Zen-style floral art exhibition and an exhibition of old photos from the Japanese colonial period. The activities promise to be exciting and memorable.
Qingshu Temple is a temple rich in Japanese charm, with its classic, timeless style attracting many visitors.
The Yoshino Immigrant Village (now Jianshe Village in Ji’an Township) was the first government-planned immigrant village during the Japanese colonial era. With its well-organized development, Yoshino Immigrant Village became the most prosperous settlement of that time. This year marks its 100th anniversary. In addition, the Yoshino Preaching Hall, the predecessor of today’s Qingshu Temple, was built in 1917 through donations, making it 94 years old this year. Qingshu Temple has already energized tourism in the surrounding Ji’an area. In the future, the surrounding historic preservation zone will be further developed, extending the cultural landscape both linearly and spatially, enriching the content of cultural tours.
On November 20th, Qingshu Temple will host a series of ceremonial events—stay tuned for an exciting experience.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Yoshino Immigrant Village and the centennial celebration of Qingshu Temple, the Cultural Affairs Bureau has scheduled a series of celebratory events and exhibitions for Saturday, November 20, 2010 (99th year of the Republic of China). These include a new book launch, Japanese Zen-style ikebana workshops, and Hualien storytelling sessions. This year also features the “Firewood Lantern Goma Ceremony,” which aims to extend the historical life of the site’s legacy while praying for peace and blessings for the public. It is a rare and unique celebratory event.
