Ji'an Tianxiang Scenic Area

Ji'an Tianxiang Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a patriotic education base.

The Tianxiang Scenic Area is situated on Dangmian Mountain in the eastern part of Ji'an County, Jiangxi Province (at the intersection of National Highway 105 and Ji-Jing Road), covering an area of over 1,000 acres. It features a combination of red (revolutionary), green (natural), and ancient (cultural) resources, and is composed of three main sites: the Wen Tianxiang Memorial Hall, General's Park, and Tianxiang Park. This scenic area was specially built to honor the great Southern Song national hero Wen Tianxiang and the 46 founding generals of the People’s Republic of China who were inspired by Wen’s patriotic spirit to join the revolutionary cause. It is located 10 km from the city center of Ji'an, 13 km from Ji'an Railway Station, 7.5 km from the Ji'an County exit of the Gan-Guang Expressway, 29.5 km from Jinggangshan Airport, and 12 km from the Ji'an river port. With convenient transportation and easy access, the area was approved as a national 4A-level tourist attraction in 2012.

Covering an area of over 1,000 acres and integrating red, green, and ancient cultural resources, the Tianxiang Scenic Area comprises three major attractions: the Wen Tianxiang Memorial Hall, General's Park, and Tianxiang Park, which were developed successively. The area harmoniously blends revolutionary history, traditional folk culture, and classical heritage, showcasing the unique charm of Luling culture. It holds significant historical, educational, and aesthetic value, offering visitors a new destination that combines cultural history, local customs, leisure tourism, and business reception, allowing them to gain deeper insight into the long-standing history and beautiful ecology of the Luling region.

The Wen Tianxiang Memorial Hall within the Tianxiang Scenic Area was first built in 1984 and officially opened to the public on January 9, 1992. It has since welcomed over 4 million visitors from home and abroad, and has become recognized as a “Jiangxi Provincial Patriotic Education Base, National Patriotic Education Base for Primary and Secondary Schools, National Youth Education Base, National AAA-level Tourist Attraction, and Practice Base for Cadres of the China Executive Leadership Academy Jinggangshan.” Over thirty Party and state leaders have visited and provided guidance at the memorial hall. The hall is divided into a biography exhibition area and a historical reenactment area, and its garden pathways connect directly to Tianxiang Park. The architecture follows a symmetrical palace-style layout along a central axis, gradually ascending from south to north to form a group of classical-style buildings, with the main structure being the Zhengqi Hall (Hall of Righteous Qi). The core exhibition at the hall traces the life and deeds of Wen Tianxiang. By fully displaying its collection of cultural relics, photos, and documents, and using artistic and technological methods—including scenes, diorama boxes, holographic imaging, simulated flip books, and multimedia—it vividly presents key moments in the life of the national hero and his noble character.

The General's Park in the scenic area was built in 2006 and opened to the public on August 1, 2007. It faces the Wen Tianxiang Memorial Hall across the road. The park was reconstructed from the former Jingshan Park, covering a planned area of over 76 acres with a total investment of more than 10 million yuan. The park integrates red tourism, patriotic education, and urban landscape, consisting of six sections: First, a large thematic sculpture—a grand sculpture on the green space at the foot of the mountain themed around Chairman Mao’s verse “A Hundred Thousand Workers and Peasants March into Ji'an”; second, a statues garden—featuring busts of 46 founding generals in bronze as its centerpiece, forming the core of the General's Park; third, a relief wall—depicting typical stories of revolutionary activities carried out by proletarian revolutionaries such as Zhu De, Peng Dehuai, Chen Yi, –, and Zeng Shan in Ji'an; fourth, the Revolutionary Heroes Monument—serving as the center of the General's Park; fifth, a stele forest—displaying calligraphy, poems, and inscriptions by the generals; and sixth, a memorial hall—exhibiting photos, paintings, artifacts, models, and more related to the founding generals, new-generation generals, and the revolutionary struggles in Ji'an County.

Adjacent to the Wen Tianxiang Memorial Hall, Tianxiang Park spans 550 acres, including a 200-acre General's Lake and 300 acres of green space. It is an open urban park that combines natural eco-tourism, cultural exchange, folk customs, leisure tourism, and business reception, integrating seamlessly with key city landscapes such as the Wen Tianxiang Memorial Hall and General's Park. The name “Tianxiang Park” carries three layers of meaning: first, to commemorate the national hero Wen Tianxiang; second, because Ji'an County has long been regarded as a propitious land, having given birth to national hero Wen Tianxiang, eminent statesman Zhou Bida who served three dynasties, revolutionary contributors like Zeng Shan and –, among others; and third, to express a beautiful wish—that the people living here may enjoy peace, good fortune, and happiness every day. Designed based on a spatial framework of “mountains to the north, water to the south; lake in front, stream behind; mountains encircling waters, waters embracing mountains,” the park arranges attractions around the lake, centered on water. Entering from the southern entrance, visitors can enjoy twelve beautiful scenes: Cloud Sail Pavilion Shadow, Three Isles Embracing Spring, Waterwheel Leisure, Autumn Harvest in the Fields, Egrets on Green Isle, Glistening Ripples, Secluded Peach Stream Cottage, Lotus Fragrance by the Waterfall, Ancient Charm of Water Alley, Scholarly Bamboo Shadows, Layered Peaks and Verdant Hills, and Upright Pine and Noble Wind. These twelve scenes form five major cultural zones—farming, handicrafts, folklore, academies, and righteousness—collectively showcasing the traditional culture of Luling.
