Ji’an Generals Park

Ji’an Generals Park is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

Ji’an County is an important part of the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base, a renowned revolutionary old base area. On this red and magical land, great proletarian revolutionaries such as Zeng Shan and 46 founding generals of the People’s Republic of China (ranking fifth nationwide and second in the province in terms of number of founding generals) were nurtured, making it a nationally famous “Generals’ County.” In 2007, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, Ji’an County built a theme park at the intersection of Luling Avenue and Ji’an Avenue in the eastern part of the county town. This park integrates red tourism, a patriotic education base, and urban landscape — known as Generals Park.

Covering an area of 80 mu, Generals Park opened to the public on August 1, 2007. Its main features include a thematic sculpture, a generals’ statue garden, a relief wall, a stele forest, and a Monument to Revolutionary Heroes. The thematic sculpture is designed based on the unique historical event “A Hundred Thousand Workers and Peasants March on Ji’an.” The generals’ statue garden features busts of 46 distinguished generals including -, Liang Xingchu, Liang Biye, Liu Xiyuan, and Xiao Wangdong. These bronze busts are remarkably lifelike, exuding both the dignity and solemnity of the generals and a sense of approachability. The bases of the statues are made of granite, engraved with the generals’ biographies and their achievements. The relief wall draws inspiration from Mao Zedong’s famous lines “Clouds rise over White Cloud Mountain, cries echo urgently below the mountain,” incorporating figures of proletarian revolutionaries such as Mao Zedong, Zhu De, and Zeng Shan to depict scenes of revolutionary struggle. The stele forest mainly displays handwritten poems by the generals and verses in their praise. The Monument to Revolutionary Heroes has a unique design that uses the grandeur of a “mountain” and the collective conviction of “people united” to express the highest respect of the people of the entire county for the 46 founding generals from the county. The landscaping is also ingeniously conceived, with a zigzagging network of paths leading to each general’s viewing platform symbolizing the twists and hardships of the Chinese revolution. The use of a central axis conveys the unwavering and consistent beliefs of the Chinese Communists and the revolutionary heroes. Since its opening, the park has seen a continuous stream of visitors paying their respects, especially around Qingming Festival and the Winter Solstice, when flower baskets pile up in front of the statues of the revolutionary predecessors, expressing people’s reverence and remembrance.
