The Red Army Sentry Post and Trenches on Penxing Ridge
The Red Army Sentry Post and Trenches on Penxing Ridge are a cultural relic protection site of Ji’an County.
The Red Army Sentry Post and Trenches on Penxing Ridge are located in Shangmeihua Natural Village, Meihua Village, Guantian Township.
They are situated on a northeastern hilltop of Houpengxingxian, about 3 meters below the summit and facing the northeast direction. The sentry post and trenches were dug around 1930 by the forces of Xiao Ke from the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army to defend against enemies approaching from the direction of Anfu. Originally, the trenches were over chest-deep and extended more than 500 meters, and included rammed earth walls and thatched-roof sentry sheds. Intense battles took place here. Today, the remnants of the trenches are overgrown and concealed by a thicket of brambles.
