Yue Fei's Troop-Inspection Platform

Yue Fei's Troop-Inspection Platform is located in the Right Creek River Bend of Penzhu, 5 kilometers west of the county town. When Yue Fei, the Song Dynasty’s military commissioner, was campaigning against Peng Youliang, he set up camp in Penzhu, trained his troops here, and built this troop-inspection platform.

Yue Fei (1103–1142), courtesy name Pengju, was a native of Tangyin in Xiangzhou (now part of Henan), and an outstanding military general and strategist of the Northern Song Dynasty.

Yue Fei’s father, Yue He, and mother, Lady Yao, were farmers. In his youth, Yue Fei studied archery and spear techniques under Zhou Tong and Chen Guang respectively, becoming the most skilled martial artist in the county. However, due to his family’s poverty, he later went to Xiangzhou (now Anyang) “to work as a farmhand for Han Wei Gong (Qi)’s estate.”
