The Suichuan Nanfeng Mountain Scenic Area is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

Nanfeng Mountain (National AA-level Scenic Area)

With an elevation of 2,120.4 meters, Nanfeng Mountain is the main peak of the Luoxiao Mountain Range, the highest peak in Jiangxi Province, and also the highest point shared by both Jiangxi and Hunan provinces. It is situated in Daijiapu Township, Suichuan County (114°2′12″E, 26°18′48″N), bordering Dafeng Town of Suichuan County, while its northwest connects seamlessly with Jinggangshan, and its southwest reaches into Yanling County, Hunan Province. It is only 25 kilometers away from the Reshui Zhou Scenic Area within the same county. The Nanfeng Mountain Scenic Area boasts unique natural scenery and rich biodiversity, and is a provincial nature reserve as well as a national AA-level scenic spot. Together with the Reshui Zhou Scenic Area, it forms the core of the "South Jinggang" scenic zone, a key development project in Suichuan County.

Surrounding Nanfeng Mountain are over a dozen sister peaks, all exceeding 1,800 meters in altitude. These peaks feature spectacular formations—some rugged with bizarre rocks, others standing like jade pillars reaching the sky, or sheer cliffs. Within a radius of several dozen miles, there are many attractions such as Fenglong Cave, Shisun Mountain, Guanyin Rock, and Monkey Rock. Additionally, there is a hot spring at the foot of the mountain where the water temperature remains above 45°C year-round.

The core area of the scenic zone spans 2,287 hectares and is home to 2,512 species of wild plants, including 23 that are under national key protection such as resource fir, silver fir, yew, metasequoia, Fujian cypress, cephalotaxus, fir, and sweet gum. There are also 258 species of wild animals, among which 37 are under national key protection—including yellow-bellied pheasant, white-necked long-tailed pheasant, clouded leopard, five-step snake, pangolin, and sambar deer—making the area of immense value for nature conservation and scientific research. Its well-preserved natural ecological environment has earned it the reputation of a “green pearl” by Jinggangshan and a treasure trove of biological genetic resources.

The scenic area is just 20 kilometers from the Banglou Academy in Linyang. Originally named Guilin Academy and also known as Kuixing Pavilion, the academy was built in the 15th year of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty (1835) and is one of the county’s significant ancient structures. In September 1931, Wang Zhen stayed here and held a military meeting where it was decided to establish the Gan-Xiang Red Army Office at the academy to facilitate the rendezvous of the southern Jiangxi and southern Hunan Red Armies.

The scenic area is also part of the route of Suichuan’s Millennium Bird Migration Path. The Suichuan Bird Path is a crucial “mountain pass” for migratory birds traveling through central China, forming an important section of the central migratory route in China and a key junction on the path that migratory birds take between northern China and East Asia, as well as Australia and New Zealand.

The planned area of the scenic zone covers 45 square kilometers and is divided into six major scenic sections: Main Peak, Huyangding, Jiangxiewa, Qianmo, Fenglongding, and Guanyin Mountain. It features over forty major attractions including Luoxiao Ancient Temple, Colorful Valley, Millennium Ancient Path, Millennium Bird Path, Stone Guanyin, Liu Sanmei Stone Sculpture, Qianmo Terraces, Waterfall Cluster, Shennong Herbal Washing Pool, Fairy Bathing Pool, Guanyin Mountain Grand Canyon, Immortal Riding a Crane, Fenglong Cave, Primeval Forest, Ten-Mile Azalea Belt, Sunrise over Luoxiao, Third Heaven (astronomical wonder), Nanfeng Summit (astronomical wonder), Site of the Soviet Government, Red Army Bivouac, Hakka Folk Culture, Hot Spring Resort, Wilderness Survival Training Camp, and Jiangnan Peony Garden. It is an ecotourism development project integrating sightseeing, vacationing, scientific research, and exploration.

Transportation Routes:

Southeast Route: County seat — Dafeng Town — Chuzhou Village — Daijiapu Township — Qianmo Village;

Northeast Route: County seat — Dafeng Town — Chuzhou Village — Gaoxing Village, with 10 kilometers from Jiuying Highway to Qianmo Village and 15 kilometers to Gaoxing Village.

Currently, the development project of the Nanfeng Mountain Scenic Area and the secondary road expansion project of the Jiuying Highway (the road leading to the scenic area) are being applied for inclusion in the tourism poverty alleviation development project of the National Tourism Poverty Alleviation Pilot Zone in Ji’an City, Jiangxi Province.

Transportation: After arriving in Suichuan County, take a bus to Daijiapu Township, then rent a vehicle for the 10-kilometer journey from Daijiapu Township to Qianmo Village. Self-driving is also an option.
