Former Site of the Central Huizhen'an County Committee of the CPC

The Former Site of the Central Huizhen'an County Committee of the CPC is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province and a classic red tourism attraction.

In May 1932, Deng Xiaoping was appointed as the Secretary of the Huichang County Committee of the CPC. Between June and July, entrusted by the Party, Deng successively established the Central Huizhen'an County Committee of the CPC and the Third Sub-district of the Jiangxi Military District in Baduxia and Furongzhai, Yunmenling, serving as the Secretary of the Central Committee and the Political Commissar of the Third Sub-district. From then on, Deng Xiaoping took command at the southern gateway of the Central Soviet Area, leading the military and civilians of the southern front in the vigorous struggle of the Agrarian Revolution, and worked and lived in Yunmenling for 10 months.

After taking up his post on the southern front, based on the realities of the Fujian-Guangdong-Jiangxi border area, Deng Xiaoping upheld the correct propositions represented by Mao Zedong and resisted Wang Ming’s “Left” adventurism errors. First, he strengthened the Party and government construction in various counties, developed more than 3,000 Party members, and established and improved the Party and government organizations at the county, district, and township levels; second, in response to the needs of the military struggle on the southern front, he expanded and strengthened the Red Guards and guerrilla forces to 13,528 members, using the flexible “16-character tactics” to crush the Kuomintang’s “encirclement and suppression”; third, he advanced the Agrarian Revolution in depth, implemented the correct land distribution policy, and emphasized economic and cultural development; fourth, he actively expanded the Red Army and supported the front lines, supported the army and prioritized the families of servicemen, maintained close ties with the masses, cared about the people’s hardships, and greatly inspired the revolutionary enthusiasm of the military and civilians on the southern front.

Although Deng Xiaoping's effective work in Huizhen'an was met with ruthless attacks by the implementers of Wang Ming’s “Left” adventurism errors, and he was wrongly labeled as the main representative of the “Jiangxi Luo Ming Line,” he was transferred away from Huichang in March 1933. However, his working style of seeking truth from facts and proceeding from reality; his revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and hard struggle; his steadfast revolutionary faith and commitment to truth in adversity; his fine revolutionary tradition of maintaining close ties with the masses and caring for the people—these are still celebrated among the people of Huizhen'an today.

The site is a late Qing Dynasty Hakka residential building, with restored displays inside, including the washbasin and basin stand once used by Comrade Deng Xiaoping. It was listed as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit by the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province in 1987.
