Wenyu Dam Revolutionary Site Complex of the Guangdong-Ganxi Provincial Government
The Wenyu Dam Revolutionary Site Complex of the Guangdong-Ganxi Provincial Government is a Jiangxi provincial cultural relics protection unit and a classic red tourism attraction.
A provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit and a patriotic education base in Jiangxi Province. Located in Zhuowu, Wenyu Dam Village, on the northeastern outskirts of Huichang County, the site is adjacent to National Highway 206, offering very convenient transportation. It is approximately 45 kilometers from Ruijin. This is a red tourism destination rich in the cultural flavor of southern Jiangxi’s Hakka heritage.
In August 1933, the Chinese Soviet Government decided to establish the Guangdong-Ganxi Provincial Government. Subsequently, the Guangdong-Ganxi Military District, the Guangdong-Ganxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, the Guangdong-Ganxi Provincial Soviet Government, and the Guangdong-Ganxi Provincial Committee of the Young Communist League successively operated here. In late April 1934, during the extremely difficult period of the Fifth Encirclement Campaign, Comrade Mao Zedong came to Guangdong-Ganxi from Ruijin, the seat of the Chinese Soviet Government, to conduct an inspection. He stayed for three months, during which he climbed Lan Shan Ridge outside Huichang City. Upon returning to his residence at Zhuowu in Wenyu Dam, he wrote the famous poem “Qingpingyue · Huichang.” The Wenyu Dam Revolutionary Site Complex is embraced by the Mian River in front and surrounded by green hills behind, with the fragrance of rice and beans filling the air—a perfect harmony of humanistic and natural landscapes. The main building covers an area of over 2,000 square meters, built during the Qing Dynasty. It features a traditional layout similar to the "Nine Courtyards and Eighteen Halls" style, facing south and backed by mountains with water nearby. Constructed with brick and wood and featuring a flush gable roof, the building holds significant historical and cultural research value. The interior has been restored to display items used by Red Army officers and soldiers.
