Cui Zhu Temple is located at Lao Miao Xia, Fuwei, Huichang County, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province. The temple enjoys thriving incense offerings, with many devotees contributing oil money.

Temple Fair

On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Lan Shan Ridge is filled with joyful visitors, as firecrackers sound amid the incense smoke, and red flowers and green trees create a festive atmosphere.

In the old days, the scale and grandeur of the Huichang temple fair were unprecedented. Hakka people from Ganzhou, Ningdu, Ruijin, Xingguo, Yudu, Xunwu, Anyuan, as well as from Wuping in Fujian and Meixian in Guangdong, all flocked to the event upon hearing the news. The county town was even more elaborately decorated for the celebration. Not only did local businesses, shops, and inns make early preparations, but people from the countryside—men, women, and children—also poured into the town to witness the festivities. Starting from the fifth day of the seventh lunar month, visitors to the temple fair came in an endless stream. On the sixth day, activities began as people entered the southern gate of the county town, carrying the People’s Umbrella and the Merit Banner, with colorful flags fluttering in the wind. The entire procession stretched nearly 100 meters, accompanied by loud music, marching grandly. The spectators formed a sea of people, and every shop set off incense and firecrackers. Wealthy merchants didn’t just set off firecrackers by the string or tray—they did so by the dan (measured in bamboo baskets), piling them up at their storefronts and setting them off like burning plant ash. The entire street shook with deafening noise, and the air was thick with smoke. Musicians played continuously day and night, making noise until dusk the following day.
