The Huichang County Museum was originally established in 1969 as the “Office for Promoting Comrade Mao Zedong’s Revolutionary Practices in Huichang.” In 1978, it was renamed the “Huichang County Revolutionary History Memorial Hall,” and in July 1984, it was officially designated as the “Huichang County Museum.” It is currently located on the seventh floor of the Youth and Students’ Off-Campus Activity Center on the north side of Tongji Avenue in the county’s education and culture district. The museum has over 1,000 square meters of office and exhibition space and is a comprehensive local museum under the jurisdiction of the Huichang County Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, News and Publication, and Tourism. The museum has a staff quota of nine, but currently employs 11 personnel, including nine full-time employees. Huichang has a long history and rich cultural heritage. A total of 43 cultural heritage sites at various levels have been designated across the county, including one national-level protected site, 12 provincial-level protected sites, 19 county-level protected sites, and 11 municipal-level heritage listings. Since its establishment, the museum has collected numerous artifacts from the Neolithic Age to the present through acquisitions and donations. The current collection includes 6,791 cultural relics, among which 383 are classified as precious items.
