The Former Sites of the Guangdong-Gan Provincial Authorities are a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The Former Sites of the Guangdong-Gan Provincial Authorities consist of the former site of the Guangdong-Gan Provincial Soviet Government, the former site of the Young Communist League Guangdong-Gan Provincial Committee, Mao Zedong’s Former Residence in Wenwuba, the air-raid shelter in the Soviet Area, the former site of the Red Army Hospital of the Guangdong-Gan Military District, and the former site of the Command Headquarters of the Third Combat Sector of the Jiangxi Military District and the Guangdong-Gan Provincial Military District. They are located in Wenwuba Town, Huichang County.

During the Agrarian Revolutionary War, after achieving four victories in the counter-encirclement campaigns, the Central Soviet Area continued to expand. In order to strengthen leadership in the struggle against the enemy on the southern front, better develop the south, and promote commodity trade, in April 1933, the Central Revolutionary Military Commission decided to merge the Third and Fifth Combat Sectors of Jiangxi and establish the Guangdong-Gan Military District in Yunmenling, unifying the military command of Yudu, Ganzhou, Xinfeng, Nankang, Huichang, Xunwu, Anyuan, and Wuping counties. On August 16 of the same year, the Central People’s Government Council decided to establish the Guangdong-Gan Province, and in September, the Guangdong-Gan Provincial Committee, the Guangdong-Gan Provincial Soviet Government, and the Young Communist League Guangdong-Gan Provincial Committee were formed. The province governed seven counties: Yudu, Huichang, Xijiang, Yunmenling, Xunwu, Anyuan, and Xin Kang, with Comrade Liu Xiao serving as the provincial party secretary and Comrade Zhong Shibin as the chairman of the provincial Soviet. From September 1933, they gradually relocated their offices to Zou House in Wenwuba, remaining there until their withdrawal in October 1934. During this period, from April to July 1934, Mao Zedong, Chairman of the Central Executive Committee, came to the southern part of the Central Soviet Area to conduct research. He stayed briefly next to the former site of the Guangdong-Gan Provincial Committee. On the morning of July 23, 1934, Mao Zedong, together with Liu Xiao, Secretary of the Guangdong-Gan Provincial Committee, and He Changgong, Commander of the Guangdong-Gan Military District, climbed to the peak outside Huichang City—Lanshan Ridge. Filled with passion and poetic inspiration, he returned to his residence and wrote the classic revolutionary optimistic poem “Qingpingyue · Huichang.” This poem provided a powerful summary of the situation on the southern front and greatly inspired the Red Army soldiers. In August 1934, the rear hospital of the 3rd Division of the 35th Red Army, originally stationed in Yunmenling, was moved to Banshansi on the slopes of Huichang Mountain and renamed the Red Army Hospital of the Guangdong-Gan Military District.

Wenwuba Town: Originally known as Wenwuba Township (restructured from a township to a town in 1997), Wenwuba Town merged with Xiangjiang Town in October 2001 under approval from the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Civil Affairs to form the new Wenwuba Town. It is the seat of the county’s Party and government authorities and serves as the political, economic, cultural, and transportation hub of the entire county. Located in the northeastern part of the county, the town features higher terrain in the east and lower in the west, predominantly composed of hills and plateaus. It borders Fucheng Township and Batying Township of Ruijin in the east, Machou Town in the south, Zhulan Township in the west, and both Huichang City and Zhuangkou Town and Xijiang Town of the county in the north.
