Yangtianhu Scenic Area

The Yangtianhu Scenic Area is located on both sides of the upper reaches of the Dashe River in Sanbai Mountain, covering a total area of 4.5 square kilometers. Major attractions include Yangtianhu and Daba Tou.

(1) Yangtianhu: This attraction is a small basin formed by a volcanic eruption, hence the name “Yangtianhu” (literally “Looking-up-to-the-Sky Lake”). It features cultural sites such as the Kanggong Temple, and natural attractions including a volcanic crater, towering ancient cypresses, and cave-like trees.

1. Kanggong Temple: Located in the central area of Yangtianhu, it was built in the third year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty. It served as the site of the armory for the 23rd Red Army Column during the Agrarian Revolutionary War. It is now listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Anyuan County. Visitors can receive revolutionary traditional education here.

2. Volcanic Crater: This is the central remnant of the ancient volcanic eruption. Visitors can't help but stop to admire and ponder the site, often lingering there in fascination.

3. Cave Tree: An unusual tree that stands upright on the right and bends to the left forming a square frame resembling a cave entrance, hence the name “Cave Tree.” It is an ideal spot for visitors to take commemorative photos.

(2) Daba Tou: The Daba Tou attraction is a river-formed alluvial flat. It features natural attractions such as Tiaoyu Pool, Wayu Pool, the Twelve Bends of the Dashe River, and Shiji Long Waterfall.

1. Tiaoyu Pool: With a drop of seven to eight meters in the riverbed, every spring when the water rises, schools of fish leap up the pool. Locals use baskets to catch them—those that don’t make the jump end up in the baskets and become a delicious treat on the dining table, adding a unique charm to the experience.

2. Wayu Pool: A crystal-clear deep pool where several large rocks resemble giant salamanders, as if swimming in the water. Hence the name “Wayu Pool” (literally “Salamander Pool”).
