Sandie Pool Scenic Area

The Sandie Pool Scenic Area is located near the headwaters of a small river 6 kilometers northeast of Fuaotang, covering an area of 4.76 square kilometers. The mountainous terrain is primarily composed of granite and slate, featuring intense erosion and dramatic gorges with significant elevation drops in the streams. Within the deep valleys, there are three consecutive waterfalls, each with unique features. Below each waterfall lies a nearly circular deep pool, surrounded by broad areas and flat, neatly arranged stone beds along the edges. Steep cliffs rise on both sides, with verdant peaks piercing the clouds and ancient trees towering overhead. Being here gives one the feeling of being cut off from the mundane world,

as if in a fairyland. Major scenic spots include Wangtian Waterfall, Qingyin Spring, Immortal Mirror-Viewing, Golden Toad Gazing at the Moon, Jade Rabbit Longing for the Mortal World, and Divine Snail Attending the Assembly.

1. Wangtian Waterfall: Located 4 kilometers northeast of Fuaotang. In the deep mountain valley, the waterfall cascades down. Standing by the pool at the base and looking up, the waterfall resembles colorful silk ribbons drifting from the horizon, a truly spectacular sight—hence the name “Wangtian Waterfall” (Gazing-at-the-Sky Waterfall).

2. Immortal Mirror-Viewing: Located 5 kilometers northeast of Fuaotang. On the right side of a large deep pool, there is a rock shaped like an immortal elder. Facing the mirror-like surface of the pool, he appears to be grooming himself, serene and composed.

3. Golden Toad Gazing at the Moon: Located 6 kilometers northeast of Fuaotang. A giant rock shaped like a toad is shown gazing up at the sky, as if longing to ascend to the moon. Hence, it is called “Golden Toad Gazing at the Moon.”

4. Jade Rabbit Longing for the Mortal World: Located on the riverbank 3 kilometers northeast of Fuaotang. A large rock shaped like a jade rabbit stands as if hesitating and unwilling to leave—thus named “Jade Rabbit Longing for the Mortal World.”
