Former Site of the Anyuan County Soviet Government

The former site of the Provisional Soviet Government of Anyuan County is located at Yongxing Mountain Hermitage in Guanxi Village, Chetou Town. Yongxing Mountain was originally called “Yongji Mountain” and has an elevation of about 800 meters. The hermitage is built with brick and wood, measuring 18 meters in width and 9.5 meters in depth, covering a total area of 117 square meters. In 1933, the Anyuan County Soviet Government operated here. In 1983, it was listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Anyuan County.

Yongxing Mountain is home to a Red Army Academy, which once served as the office of the county Soviet government. The academy was first built in the seventh year of the Hongwu era during the Ming Dynasty. It has been damaged and repaired several times, and now one two-story building with eight rooms remains, featuring carved eaves and painted beams. During the imperial examination era, many scholars and literati gathered here. Chen Wenhua, a successful candidate in the imperial examinations during the Ming Dynasty, and Liu Jingxin, a scholar in the Qing Dynasty, both studied diligently at this academy and achieved academic success.

During the Northern Expedition and the democratic revolution period, due to warfare, the Chetou Township Primary School was relocated to the academy multiple times. During the Fourth Counter-Encirclement Campaign, Comrade Huang Huoyan, Chairman of the County Soviet Government, led the government staff from the county town to the academy, using it as a temporary office. From there, they organized the Banshi Battle and the Chetou Battle, and later departed from the academy, passing through Manao’ao, Zhaigongling, and Wulichang, en route to Qingxi in Huichang.

During the Agrarian Revolutionary War period, Comrade Luo Guibo came to Anyuan to ignite the flames of revolution. He held military meetings at the academy, directed battles, and organized armed forces that fired the first shot of Anyuan’s agrarian revolutionary armed struggle at Chetou Market.
