The Former Site of the Central Bureau of the Chinese Soviet Area (Xingguo) is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a classic red tourism attraction.

Former Site of the Central Bureau of the Chinese Soviet Area (Site of the First Wireless Cipher Communication & Headquarters of the Red Eighth Army Corps)

The Central Bureau of the Chinese Soviet Area was located in Gulonggang Market, Gulonggang Town, originally housed in the ancestral hall of the Zou family. In June 1931, the Central Bureau of the Chinese Soviet Area moved here. On July 4, radio operators of the Central Bureau’s rear station used captured radio transceivers and cipher codes brought from Shanghai by Ren Bishi to send military intelligence about the Kuomintang’s third “encirclement and suppression” campaign against the Central Soviet Area to the headquarters and General Front Committee of the First Front Army of the Red Army in Jianning, Fujian. This marked the first use of wireless cipher communication in the history of the Chinese military.

On October 9, 1934, the headquarters of the Red Eighth Army Corps was stationed here. Corps Commander Zhou Kun, Political Commissar Huang Su, and Director of the Political Department Luo Ronghuan held a meeting here to announce the handover of their positions and prepare to move to Yudu for assembly and strategic relocation. It was designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit in 1999.
