Xingguo Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall
The Xingguo Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism destination.
The Xingguo Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall has a central hall serving as a memorial chapel, surrounded by five exhibition rooms that display the photos, personal belongings, statues, and biographies of 121 martyrs who sacrificed their lives in various revolutionary battles, the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, the Counterattack in Self-Defense Against Vietnam, and during the socialist construction period.
As you enter the foyer, the first thing you see are four large characters reading “Hao Qi Chang Cun” (Mighty Spirit Lives Forever). On both sides of the monument are glass display cases showcasing the honor rolls of Xingguo martyrs.
The first exhibition room displays statues of two generals among Xingguo’s 54 generals—namely, Xiao Hua and Chen Qihan.
The second exhibition room presents a diagram of the anti-“encirclement” campaigns carried out by the Soviet Area’s military and civilians from December 1930 to October 1934, along with statues of nine revolutionary martyrs including Xie Yuansong, the model division commander of Xingguo, and Zhong Xiaopei, the secretary of the Young Communist League Provincial Committee.
The third exhibition room, which is also the central part of the entire museum, showcases the battle heroes from the most difficult and turbulent years of the revolution. The portraits include those of martyrs such as Liu Changsi, Liu Qiyao, Xu Dazhi, and Xie Changbao. It also documents the arduous journey and route map of the Long March from 1934 to 1935, as well as the 12,038 martyrs who lost their lives during the Long March.
The fourth exhibition room displays statues of revolutionary martyrs such as Xie Mingshen and Zhong Shibin, who were exemplary county party secretaries, as well as a very famous statue titled “Entrusting Orphan Before the Horse.”
The fifth exhibition room exhibits the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the victory of the Republic between 1937 and 1981. The portraits include Deng Zhenxun, Liu Jianhan, Wang Zhifa, and others. Particularly eye-catching is the inscription by Comrade Mao Zedong: “Tens of thousands of martyrs have heroically laid down their lives for the people’s interests. Let us hold high their banner and march onward along the path stained with their blood!”
In front of the memorial hall is the Revolutionary Martyrs’ Honor Roll, covering an area of 130 square meters. The stone slabs are all carved from golden starstone produced in Xingzi County at the foot of Mount Lu, forming a circular memorial wall inscribed with the names of 23,179 martyrs from Xingguo. The structure is magnificent and awe-inspiring.
