Xingguo Tonghui Temple

Xingguo Tonghui Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Xingguo Tonghui Temple, Xingguo County, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province   Located in Gaoxing Town, Xingguo County, southern Jiangxi, the temple is about 7 kilometers from the county town. The entire temple is hidden within Tongtianyan (Heaven-Reaching Rock), with its shrines, altars, incense tables, and offering desks all carved directly into the mountain. It is said that Tonghui Temple was first built in the late Southern Song Dynasty. When Wen Tianxiang led the Song army in retreat to Guangdong, he left behind some orphaned soldiers who were difficult to take along, and built this temple in the cave to shelter them. Zhang Shangyuan, a renowned historian of the Qing Dynasty, once climbed to Tonghui Temple. Gazing at the Gem Mountain fairyland with its cluster of peaks, he counted 36 peaks and joyfully inscribed the three large characters “对嵩岩” (Duì Sōng Yán) on the rock face. Here, “嵩” (sōng) refers to the number 36.
