Yangshan Leisure Tourism Area

Yangshan is located in Butou Township, Xingguo County, about 5 kilometers from the county seat. It is the highest peak in the vicinity of the county town and is poetically called “Yangshan” (Goat Mountain) due to its unique shape, which strikingly resembles a goat.

Yangshan has a subtropical maritime monsoon climate, featuring mild weather, abundant rainfall, ample sunshine, and distinct seasons. The average annual temperature is 18.8 degrees, with 1,926.5 hours of sunshine, a frost-free period of 284 days, and an annual rainfall of 1,560 millimeters. The scenic Yangshan is covered with lush bamboo and trees, offering pleasant views. On the mountain stands the “Longhua Ancient Temple,” which features upturned eaves, painted decorations, and a majestic appearance. The “Longhua Ancient Temple” houses a striking golden plaque commemorating the “Yangshan Meeting” held on October 15, 1927, by over 20 local Communist revolutionaries, including Chen Qihan, Hu Can, and Xiao Yiru.

The “Yangshan Meeting” made five key decisions: to restore the Party and mass organizations, to carry out the “Five Resistances” struggle, to divide and weaken enemy forces, to establish a revolutionary activity center, and to form a revolutionary armed force. It also upgraded the Xingguo Branch Committee of the Chinese Communist Party to the Xingguo County Special Branch. This meeting marked a crucial turning point for the Xingguo Party organization, transitioning from setback to recovery after the failure of the Great Revolution, and set the stage for revolutionary activities in Xingguo. The Longhua Ancient Temple is especially notable for integrating monastic practice with farming—sustaining itself through its own labor and truly embodying the Buddhist principle of “no work, no food,” serving as a role model for many temples.
