Former Site of the Chongxian Uprising

The Chongxian Uprising took place in Chongxian Village, Chongxian Township, with the site being the old market square of Chongxian Market.

On May 10, 1928, Communist Party members from Chongxian—Xie Yunlong, Li Ting (also known as Lei Guipeng), along with Li Wenlin and Li Shaojiu from the 7th Column of the Donggu Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army—jointly led the Chongxian Uprising. The uprising forces killed Zeng Wenxuan, the head of the Chongxian Peace Preservation Corps, and seized over 30 guns from the corps. They then surrounded the estate of the local landlord Zou Ruihui, cutting off all access. Nearby farmers, armed with spears and hoes, shouted battle cries as they came to support. However, the gates of the Zou residence remained tightly shut, with no response for a long time. It turned out that upon hearing of Zeng Wenxuan’s death, Zou Ruihui had fled in terror with his family and servants. The uprising fighters stormed into the compound and confiscated all the grain, silk fabrics, gold and silver valuables, oxen, and farming tools owned by the Zou family, distributing them among the peasants. At the Chongxian River Dam, a public trial was held, and the despotic landlords Luo Juegao and Luo Lianyang were tried and executed on the spot. The Chongxian Uprising fired the first shot of the peasant armed uprising in Xingguo, marking the beginning of the local armed struggle in Xingguo County. Veterans such as Xie Xianghuang, Liu Dai, Zhong Ping (also known as Zhong Rongqing), Yuan Guangyu, Wang Tong, Wang Daojin, and Pan Kaiwen all embarked on their revolutionary paths during the Chongxian Uprising.

In 1992, the People's Government of Xingguo County erected a memorial stele to commemorate the event.
