Pagoda Park

Pagoda Park is located beside National Highway 323 at the west gate of the county town, 60 kilometers from Ganzhou City. It is an ideal place for people to climb high and enjoy the distant view, gaze at the Gong River, and explore ancient Buddhist sites. The pagoda was formerly known as the "Huiming Temple Pagoda" and was first built in the second year of the Zhihe era during the Song Dynasty (1055 AD), undergoing several renovations over time. It was renovated again in the thirteenth year of the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty (1534 AD) and renamed the "Chongguang Pagoda," often referred to as the "Yudu Cultural Peak," and was deeply cherished by the local people. It was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution but was spontaneously rebuilt with donations from the people of the entire county in 2004 at a new location. The current pagoda stands 55.26 meters tall, featuring an octagonal structure that faces the wind, with seven tiers of eaves, each level equipped with a gallery. The single-layered pagoda has four main gates aligned with the cardinal directions: Zi, Wu, Mao, and You. The double-layered section includes four corner gates corresponding to the four intercardinal directions: Qian, Kun, Gen, and Xun. The spire consists of four levels cast in iron. The base of the pagoda is octagonal with a diameter of 12 meters. The main framework is built with a brick-concrete structure, externally clad in green bricks, featuring harmonious colors and a Song Dynasty-style design that is truly spectacular. The surging Gong River meanders gracefully by, with verdant hills and competing mountain ranges, offering views that seem to welcome you from the left and right, and bow forward and back. From the evening of October 16 to 18, 1934, the 17,805 soldiers of the Red Third Army Corps, led by Peng Dehuai, crossed the Yudu River at the foot of the old Chongguang Pagoda, as well as at the South Gate of the county town and the Mengkou Ferry in Lu’ao, beginning the world-renowned Long March of twenty-five thousand li. The park highlights solemn elegance, simple beauty, and ecological harmony, and includes activities such as climbing the Chongguang Pagoda, viewing the Gong River from afar, capturing glimpses of the county town, engaging in religious worship, strolling through the forest, and enjoying the pagoda at night.
