The Hakka Affairs Council of Kaohsiung City Government began piloting the "New New Learning Hakka Family Empowerment Trial Plan" experimentally last August, inviting 10 families each from urban areas and Meinong District to participate. On the 11th, a results presentation was held at the Cultural Relics Museum of the New Hakka Cultural Park. Through a parent-child game challenge format, parents and children played games together while speaking Hakka and shared their experiences of using Hakka at home.
"Language learning" is one of the most important aspects of a child's growth. Children can not only learn language and stimulate intelligence through games, running, jumping, and courses, but also acquire various skills and unlock their potential in a joyful learning atmosphere.
The Hakka Affairs Council stated that the one-year "New New Learning Hakka Family Empowerment Trial Plan" introduced activities such as "Come Listen to a Story! Story + Extended Game Activities," "Parent-Child Cooking," "Fun with Hakka Board Games," "Handmade Picture Books," and "New Technology Exploration – Experiential Games with Zenbo and VR," among other Hakka cultural skill courses. These make Hakka learning more lively and natural. Through gatherings every two months, it guides parent-child pairs to experience the joy of speaking Hakka through diverse games, while also assessing parents' effectiveness in promoting Hakka at home, serving as a reference for future expansion.
Gu Xiu-fang, Chairperson of the Hakka Affairs Council, said that Hakka is facing serious decline. She hopes this results presentation will raise parents’ awareness and motivation to preserve the Hakka language, and also looks forward to encouraging more families to speak Hakka in daily life, all working together to pass on the Hakka language.
