Luotianyan Rock Carvings

The Luotianyan Rock Carvings are an important cultural site located within the Luotianyan Scenic Area in Zhalan Village on the southern bank of the Gong River in Yudu County, Jiangxi Province. According to historical records, over 100 inscriptions by notable figures from the Tang and Song dynasties onwards are distributed across the cliffs covering approximately 2 square kilometers around Luotianyan. However, due to the passage of time, many of these carvings have weathered or peeled off, and some were also deliberately damaged during the Cultural Revolution. Currently, only 57 can be clearly identified and are relatively well preserved. These are mainly distributed on the cliffs east of the temple and those at Guanshan Rock. On the cliffs east of the temple, 15 inscriptions can be distinguished, with the majority dating from the Song dynasty. The earliest discovered inscription, dated to the third year of the Huangyou era of the Song dynasty (1051 AD), is located here on this cliff.
