Bishan Cave

Bishan Cave is a tunnel connecting Longtou Road to Neicuo’ao. Though it may appear to be just an ordinary tunnel, it holds many stories within. Most people simply pass through in a hurry, perhaps noticing the writings on the walls but seldom lingering. Everything written here essentially captures the nuances of love—passion, longing, heartache. There’s no need to make a special trip here, but it’s a spot many visitors pass by and can appreciate with a mindset open to reading stories.

Bishan Cave is also known as an “air-raid shelter,” built during the cross-strait standoff to protect against bombings by Kuomintang aircraft.

Bishan Cave connects Longtou Road and Neicuo’ao, is adjacent to Trinity Church, and not far beyond the tunnel lies Bishan Park.

The tunnel is short and can be walked through in under five minutes. It’s quite cool inside, and you might occasionally spot street performers setting up and singing.

The dimly lit tunnel was once covered in various graffiti, most of it left by past visitors, though on a smaller scale compared to the Hibiscus Tunnel.

Take the Xiamen-Shuzhou ferry line and get off at the Gulangyu Neicuo’ao Wharf stop.

Or walk 287 meters within the Gulangyu scenic area to reach Bishan Cave.
