Forty-Four Bridge

The Forty-Four Bridge is one of the ten scenic highlights of Shuzhuang Garden. Built from white granite, the winding and undulating bridge resembles a dragon or snake. The seamless blend of human craftsmanship and nature is truly marvelous. Leaning on the railing and looking out beyond the garden, you’ll see the autumn waters blending seamlessly with the sky; looking back into the garden, red flowers and green leaves complement each other beautifully. In the middle of the Forty-Four Bridge, two massive rocks are stacked atop one another, standing proudly and gazing over the sea and sky, inscribed with the words “Vast as the Sea and Sky” and “Pillow on the Flow.” These giant rocks serve almost as a watershed, splitting the Forty-Four Bridge into two sections. The bridge is decorated with a variety of pavilions, each uniquely designed.

The attraction is located within Shuzhuang Garden.

Access the island from Piano Pier, then follow Longtou Road. Pass by Bank of China – Zhang Sanfeng Milk Tea – Xinhua Bookstore – Huang Shengji Meat Shop. At the four-way intersection, find Huangmangmang on Huoyan Road. After going uphill, turn right, pass Gulangyu Concert Hall and Xiami Tang, then turn left at the entrance of the People’s Stadium. Continue onto Zhonghua Road, passing Xinyu Restaurant, Phoenix Boutique, Gulangyu Cadre Sanatorium, and Seaside Garden Hotel. Go downhill, and on the left side of the road is the entrance to Shuzhuang Garden.
