Xiamen University Nanputuo Grand Auditorium

The Nanputuo Grand Auditorium commenced construction in 1952 and was completed in 1954. It was personally designed and supervised by Mr. Tan Kah Kee, and funded mainly by overseas Chinese from Nan’an, Fujian, led by his son-in-law, Mr. Lee Kong Chian. The auditorium features exquisitely intricate architecture, adorned with grand festive decorations and elaborate bead curtain patterns, creating a unique landmark that harmoniously blends ancient and modern, Eastern and Western elements, drawing on the strengths of diverse styles. The Nanputuo Building Complex follows the traditional "one main and four subsidiary" layout of Jiageng Architecture. The five buildings are arranged in an arc facing the sea, embracing the beautiful Shangxian Field, making it one of Xiamen’s iconic landmarks.
