Jimei Scenic Area

Jimei Scenic Area is located in the outskirts of Lu Island, separated from Xiamen Island only by the Xiamen Bridge, making it a major transportation hub for entering and exiting Xiamen Island. As one of the four major scenic areas in Xiamen, Jimei has long been renowned. The area features key attractions such as Jimei School Village, Ao Garden, Jia Geng Park, Return Garden, and the former residence of Mr. Chen Jiageng.

Jimei District is located at the geometric center of Xiamen City and the heart of the Xiamen-Zhangzhou-Quanzhou Delta region, enjoying a unique geographical advantage as an important gateway to the west of Xiamen Island. In May 1989 and December 1992, with the approval of the State Council, the Xinglin and Jimei Taiwanese Investment Zones were successively established, covering a total planned area of 32 square kilometers. It serves as a significant window for Xiamen Special Economic Zone’s opening up, as well as an important industrial, educational, and new urban district of Xiamen.

Jimei District is a key hometown of overseas Chinese in Fujian Province. The history of Jimei ancestors migrating overseas can be traced back as early as the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties. With a spirit of hard work, courage to forge ahead, and perseverance through hardships, Jimei’s overseas Chinese have achieved remarkable success. Notable figures include Chen Jiageng, Chen Jingxian, Zeng Guangbi, Huang Zhonghan, Chen Wenque, Chen Lushi, Chen Wangzhi (Ang Kee), Ong Teng Cheong, Sun Bingyan, and Chen Shuicheng. Some became business magnates, others scientific elites, and some political leaders, all making outstanding contributions to the economic development and social progress of their adopted countries.

Jimei School Village is located within Jimei Scenic Area. It was generously funded and established by Mr. Chen Jiageng and has now been officially unified under the name “Jimei University” with approval from China’s Ministry of Education. The School Village includes facilities such as the Funan Grand Auditorium, libraries, gymnasiums, concert halls, swimming pools, dragon boat pools, hospitals, and a sailing club. Jimei School Village is not only a place of natural beauty but also a scenic destination that embodies a blend of diverse attractions.
